The Voice wipes the floor with Australia’s Got Talent
The Nine Network has had one of its strongest nights in 2012 with the second night of The Voice and the launch of The Block.
Strengthening its performance from Sunday’s debut of 2.177m, The Voice took 2.541m across the five city metro markets, according to preliminary results from OzTam.
The musical audition show wiped the floor with the debut of rival Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent which took 1.196m across the five cities for sixth place overall.
Over one million below The Voice, but still in second place for the night was the debut of Nine’s, The Block.
The renovation show, which went out at 7pm, took 1.4m in its first airing, up on last year’s debut of 1.342m.
The 90 minute episode of The Voice also looks to have affected ratings for Seven’s Revenge, which went out at 9pm, and rated 1.1m viewers for eighth spot.
Nine took the entire winners podium with Nine News third for the night on 1.27m, followed by Seven News in fourth place with 1.255m and in fifth place A Current Affair took 1.21m.
ABC News was the public broadcaster’s highest rating show with 1.048m in ninth spot.
Ten’s The Biggest Loser was the network’s highest rating show, taking 0.825m in 11th spot.
SBS’s only appearance in the top 50 shows was Mythbusters at 49 with 0.206m.

I do wonder how much this has to do with the active boycott of Kyle Sandilands…. I hope that Channel 7 take note. Australia has seen enough, heard enough of Sandilands and will do all in their power to let that be known.

Ain`t we sick and tired of talent shows already OVER IT..

Kate, it would have nothing to do with Kyle. The strength of the first night’s show and rave reviews meant that there was a strong second night’s performance. People actually don’t care about Kyle…

Paul I suspect you are actually wrong on that point – no offence of course. Many people do actually care about Kyle – care in that they have had enough! Being that I have spent the past 4 and half months campaigning on the ‘Kyle issue’ I can assure you that there is a ground swell of people out there doing all in their power to get rid of him.

Is that why the Kyle and Jackie O’s cume audience grew by 65,000 in survey 2 from survey 1. 465,000 in survey 1 and grew to 530,000 in survey 2…still down from last years figures (by about 40,000 on average) but there is enough to suggest that as long as he keeps his nose clean his audience should grow back to 2011 levels
and also their female audience grew from 274,000 to 313,000. Women are actually spending more time listening to Kyle and Jackie when comparing survey 2 in 2011 (pre Kyle’s stupid activity) to survey 2, 2012.
Just quoting facts not guess work

I should mention that survey 3/4 will be the real test for them though and give a true indication of what the Sydney public think of K&J

no wonder a radio DJ won the gold logie, if these are the sort of shows we are talking about.

It also amazes me how so many Australians are closet trapeze artists, magicians or have their own rap groups.

I’m a bit disappointed that there’s this massive ratings war happening…. and there’s nothing I want to watch. I enjoy watching a good show on TV, but having people’s ‘journeys’ and sob stories shoved down my throat is growing a bit tiresome.
I’m also curious to know how much it costs to make shows like these nowadays. When reality TV first came about I thought one of the main reasons behind it was that it’s cheap to make. If I took an educated guess on how much The Voice judges are being paid I’m interested to know if this is still the case?

@ kate and paul, never mind Kyle – I don’t think Brian McFadden or Dannii Minogue have ever proven to be particularly attractive to TV audiences either. For all the chatter about them in the gossip pages, neither has any track record in actually drawing big numbers in Australia across any of their respective projects

Kyle is the only entertaining thing on Australia’s got talent. The voice is a surprise. I found the show boring

Actually, Kyle Sandilands IS the reason why I didn’t watch Australia’s Got Talent last night. I’ll be honest and say that I wasn’t busting to watch the show anyway, but he’s certainly the reason my TV did not stop on the show at all last night – not even for a channel surf.

I watched a few minutes of it last night and thought it was good. If it wasn’t for Game of Thrones I would have watched it all. The Voice perhaps will attract a better quality of entrant. Someone who enjoys the idea of not being judged purely on their appearance and with a judging panel which is entirely actually made up of performers. It wad a nice change from the Channel 9 whiter than white casting on the block which made me want to throw a shoe at the television.

The same number of people would listen to 2DayFM and watch Australia’s Got Talent irresepective of who is hosting. The Kyle factor, good or bad, is a myth – when he is not on air the ratings are about the same.

This morning’s Telegraph referred to those discredited “Q Scores”. I thought TV stations had abandoned this nonsense years ago when Magda Szubanski scored the top Q Score and on the strength of that was given her own show by Nine which was a total ratings flop. Hamish Blake is currently the number one Q Scorer and look at the pathetic ratings his Gap Year series had.

Paul I was under the impression that Sandilands lost around 116,000 listeners in the first survey, got some back in the second but still about 40,000 down, no?
If you were to read any of the comments on articles published 17/4 re The Voice ratings I think you will find that there are quite a lot of people speaking out saying that they just don’t want to see the likes of Kyle – they’re choosing not to tune in.
I do believe him being there will have a detrimental affect on their ratings throughout. I also think that you will see a slide in the radio ratings – Kyle is so boring now! A lot of people only tune in to hear what shocking thing Kyle is going to say. It is in 2Day’s best interest to keep that in check otherwise they risk losing their licence. Bad situation poorly handled in my opinion. Wouldn’t want to work there – everyone under the spotlight (24/7 for the next 5 yrs, guest included) due to his bad mouth…

Kate you’re on a Vendetta against Kyle, there are a lot of people who like him and think he makes Australia’s got talent the success it was last year and I agree. I dont listen to his radio show but I like him on AGT which a really good TV show and the only reason The Voice is doing well is that its new and it will drop in ratings once the final contestants are chosen, Delta Goodwin is more annoying than Kyle and so is Hamish Blake who is not funny at all and who’s TV show was a flop yet he won the Gold Logie, GIVE ME A BREAK and give Kyle a break Kate

Gary I’m all about giving Kyle a break, a break from his media committments . This will allow him the time to work himself out! I don’t hate Kyle, far from it in fact, I really think he has got some issues that need addressing. Look at him, he doesn’t look happy! And I really feel for those people working alongside him who have to suffer his wrath on occassion.
I think Kyle has been enabled for far too long, it is time for him to face the consequences of his actions. This is not a bad thing! That is how we learn after all… Kyle has a history of bad behaviour, he never learns to behave differently because he is never punished. I truly beleieve he will be a better person for it…

I worry about Kate’s obsession with Kyle

KAte, do you think Dancing With The Stars also felt the wrath of viewers who didn’t like Kyle as well. Are they boycotting Seven because of Kyle?
Or do we give congratulations where congratulations are due – Channel Nine has picked a great program and people are voting for the quality of the show (The Voice). It’s a new format and has great appeal

The Only reason I will not watch AGT is because of Kyle Sandilands. I do not hate him, I despise his behaviour & I will not have him in my home. I think others are under estimating how despised Kyle is!

I am actually annoyed as I wanted to watch AGT, I love watching when people get a chance to display their talent. for some it can be life changing. I tried watching the first night and muted the sound when Kyle spoke, it didn’t work though because I still had to look at him. Whats more I don’t know anyone that likes him, but he has his followers and for now that seems to be enough to keep him in a job

Gee, last night AGT increased it’s audience to 1.4m…an increase of 400,000
crikey does this mean people are warming to Kyle? Of course not, the Voice wasn’t on and people like these sort of shows regardless of hosts and judges. They want to see real Aussies having a go

Yes Paul, which means more people saw the ‘stunt’ with Owen Campbell. Good to see that at least one journalist called it for what it was… http://www.independentaustrali.....ities-lack

Kate but this wasn’t in the pre-promotes shown on air by Seven. If it was then you have a case but this is all based on retro fitting your argument against Kyle. If people are boycotting all Kyle associated channels TV or radio, then why has Channel Seven been undefeated for the past 18 months – and more specifically the last 4 months since Kyle’s stuff up.
Let’s back this up with some factual numbers:
a) People 10+ who heard Kyle’s rant (average over the survey 8 period – Wed 0600-0615) – 72,000
b) Additional publicity from media companies creating a news story – this will be an estimate – 10,000,000 (half of Australia)
c) People who signed up to sack Vile Kyle via change.org- 34,906 as of 1055 today
d) People who signed up to sack Vile Kyle via facebook page- 35 likes as of 1055 today
e) People who listen to K&J Breakfast show, Survey 2 530,000
Now I sort of think that people still want to listen to him and watch him and it isn’t up to us to judge him BUT we do need to make him accountable. It is obvious that he isn’t going to be sacked. To accuse advertisers of having the same values as Kyle is as absurd as saying your organisation is the same as the more militant anti rape group that you have distanced yourself from. It’s also the same as saying that advertisers in Underbelly endorse crime and murder

Just want to point out that we have on average around 240 members at anyone time in our Facebook group (closed group, yes a few likes on the page). 157 sponsors have withdrawn. That is what I know for sure :0)
Of course I am excited to see anything that shows Kyle in bad light especially despite CH7 and 2DAYFM trying to promote the new improved Kyle. I read SCA spin on the ACMA findings last night – laughable. http://southerncrossaustereo.c.....CMA-QA.pdf (love no.8 – if it were true they wouldn’t be on air).
I know I seem obsessive :0) ha ha and maybe I am clutching straws and so on but willing to run with it. We have a lot of support for what we are doing – from the general public and also people close to the source.
And yes determined to distance ourselves from any nutter militant groups!! :0)

Actually just heard from 3 other sponsors who have confirmed their withdrawal so now 160 :0)
