The WNBL and Foot Locker forge new partnership

Sportswear retailer Foot Locker is officially partnering with the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) ahead of the 2024-25 season.

The partnership will serve as an initiative allowing Foot Locker to uphold women’s sports and contribute to basketball’s increasing popularity within Australia.

Foot Locker is marking the business move with a concept store – ‘Foot Locker Reimagined’ – at Melbourne Central on October 23. Players from across the league are expected to appear at a fan and special media event, conversing with attendees by “sharing their favourite Foot Locker memories and sneaker stories”, as well as reflecting on their journeys through the realm of basketball and predicting what will happen in the oncoming season.

While the WNBL season runs, Foot Locker’s promotional materials will be heavily featured via advertising campaigns, digital platforms and through branding within stadiums.

LED signage, floor decals and activations on game day (such as through voucher giveaways “and integration into the prestigious WNBL awards program”) will also bear Foot Locker’s branding and overall presence. Additionally, WNBL fans can expect to see Foot Locker leverage extensive media exposure in every game’s broadcast, on top of appearing “on the WNBL’s website, in email marketing campaigns, and across a dedicated social media series”.

“I’m really excited to see Foot Locker stepping up as a major partner for the WNBL,” said the captain of the Southside Flyers and current WNBL and NBL1 National Champion, Bec Cole.

“In the NBL1, we always push hard to win the ‘Foot Locker Player of the Week’ voucher because we are such sneakerheads. I can’t wait to see how Foot Locker elevates our league and inspires even more motivation in current and future players.”

Foot Locker Asia Pacific’s general manager and vice president, Natalie Ellis, said: “Partnering with the WNBL is a natural extension of Foot Locker’s dedication to basketball globally and in the Pacific region.

“We’ve been deeply ingrained with the basketball community for years, and this investment ensures that the WNBL and its athletes will receive the visibility and recognition they deserve.

“Through this partnership, Foot Locker celebrates the extraordinary talent within the WNBL while also inspiring the next generation of female basketball talent.”

Head of the WNBL, Christy Collier-Hill, added: “We are excited to welcome Foot Locker as a major partner of the WNBL.

“Their dedication to basketball in Australia mirrors our ambition to elevate the game and provide a platform for our athletes to shine. This partnership will not only boost the visibility of the league but also create unique opportunities for fans to engage with the sport. We look forward to working together to make a lasting impact on women’s basketball in Australia.”

Foot Locker’s sponsorship of the WNBL comes a few months after the brand announced that it signed on as a major partner for the Boomers.
