The BlackBerry music activation was really beginning to draw a crowd…

Where are the agency credits?

Hahaha – why do brands like this think they should make a music play? Especially a brand that is primarily a business tool. This is very amusing. The kids at Apple must love seeing this.

Looks that RIM will keep failing this quarter.

Guess they didn’t have any free food. Hope the DJ got paid.

agree @Matt re the music play…..RIM is the red-headed step-child next to Apple in this game.
but more than that, what is with these shite activations that seem to exist in a vacuum? did the boss say “I want hundreds of people to know about our product for the maximum cost per head, get on it”??
what happened to getting out there and telling us what you stand for via good old advertising? RIM is in deep crap globally and they need to get focused and get the message out there (or break up the business and sell it off).
ironically all the people they touch at these dumb activations will soon own a device from a dead company…..at least that won’t apply to a big number based on today’s event.

8am you say? Surely this was just the bump-in? Are there any pics from the event in full swing? Where’s the agency and their mates, and their mate’s mates to pad things out and get the party started? This is the sort of thing event managers have nightmares about!

To be precise, it was about 7.58, Michey D. Key commuter hour. If they hadn’t booked it for the week before Christmas.
But perhaps they were plannign to target the key 10am demographic…

Hi Joey,
You know where we mentioned the “BlackBerry music activation” in the piece? And the bit where we didn’t say anything at all about “a business tool” (that was somebody in the comment thread)?
I did gather it was to promote BlackBerry’s music offering – or bbmusic as those in the know seem to call it…
I would have been happy to stop by for a dance on the way to work, but I fear I would have been a little conspicuous…
No doubt it was totes awsoms though.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
I know when I’m rushing to work mid week in the city, there’s nothing I like more than to sit down in a random park and try to win a cap from some shite branded event. Who keeps signing off on these events? Hardly a day goes by without some backpackers dressed up as aliens running round Martin Place as 99% look on bemused and without interest. As this demonstrates, these pieces of genius often do more harm than good.

Sadly, another poor example of experiential, and another good example of the myriad of issues RIM face. Having been involved with RIM, it is not overly surprising. Plenty of people willing to help them, but not a lot of listening….

Best for this to be in a Westfield next time. Guarranteed audience 365 days.

That would be Synchromesh I’m presuming… Terrible.

Peer Group have done their other BBM stuff but unsure they were behind this. Not sure how the other activities went but this seems to have missed the mark. Tough brief ultimately – BB and music aren’t exactly obvious partners.
