Think HQ nabs ECD and senior copywriter from Xero

Positive change agency Think HQ has hired Xero’s Rob Barnett and Max Bengtsson as executive creative director and senior copywriter.

The pair previously worked together client-side at Xero, contributing to the brand’s position as a category leader.

Barnett previously freelanced across agencyland, including at Leo Burnett and BWM Dentsu, with previous experience at M&C Saatchi and Isobar (now Dentsu Creative). Bengtsson also previously worked at Isobar, as well as Clemenger BBDO.

Barnett will lead the campaign and design teams, working closely with Think HQ’s chief creative officer, Andy Lima, to build on the agency’s creative capabilities and culture.

Bengtsson will work across campaigns, new business, and technology with Sam McCarron, head of art at the agency, and the wider senior executive team.

Jen Sharpe, founder and MD at Think HQ, said: “I’m thrilled to have Rob and Max on board.

“Creatives of their caliber can be hard to find, and it’s testament to Think HQ’s growth, success and philosophy that we can attract talent like them.”

Barnett said he’s always been drawn to cause-based clients, so he’s thrilled to join an agency where values and purpose aren’t just buzzwords.

“After working client side, I have a new appreciation and understanding of the challenges marketers face, as well as the insights and strategies required to have a measurable impact on their brand,” he said.

“I think creativity can be a powerful tool to drive real-world change, and what excites me most about joining Think HQ is the opportunity to make a tangible, meaningful and positive impact across a diverse range of communities.”

Bengtsson concluded: “There’s an overwhelming sense of elation being a part of the Think HQ group – almost like a breath of fresh North-West Tasmanian air.

“Their vision has stayed true since day dot and I’m stoked to have the opportunity to contribute and push the work creatively with the rest of the wonderful and intelligent crew here.”

The duo will be based at the agency’s Melbourne office.
