‘Those poor snowflakes’: Fox FM pulls Milo Yiannopoulos ads

Southern Cross Austereo’s Fox FM team have been dubbed “snowflakes” after pulling advertisements promoting controversial right-wing agitator Milo Yiannopoulos from air.

Penthouse Magazine’s radio ad promoting Milo Yiannopoulos’ second Melbourne event was pulled off air this morning, with Penthouse claiming the banned ads are worth $10,000.

Mumbrella understands Fox FM produced the ad, but Penthouse Magazine claims Gemma Fordham, head of content at Hit Network said the ad was pulled for being “too off brand” and because the network was getting “a number of complaints”.

The voiceover said:

“The world’s most controversial man Milo Yiannopoulos is coming to Melbourne !

He’s been banned from twitter!

His book Dangerous is on the New York Times best seller list!

He calls Donald Trump  “ DADDY” !

Presented by Penthouse magazine the first show has sold out,  so tickets are now on sale for Milo’s  second show in Melbourne on Monday December four.

Oh Milo!”

In a post on Twitter, Fox FM said they were “doing further research” into the advertiser.

Damien Costas, Penthouse Magazine publisher and promoter of Yiannopoulos’  national Troll Academy Tour said the decision was “weak”.

“Those poor snowflakes!” he said.

“This is the same station that has Hamish & Andy , Fifi Box and Brendan Fevola on air every day and they are afraid of a few keyboard warriors complaining on twitter? Crazy! What will they do if one of their announcers dares to go to see Milo at his first sold out show or the newly announced second show? Ban them too?

“Be warned Fox FM that one of your new 2018 drive time team is coming as a special guest to meet Milo in Melbourne on December 4. Will you ask Kate Langbroek not to attend the show now?”

Costas said the publisher was bringing Yiannopoulos to Australia as it has long championed the right to free speech.

“The magazine was founded in 1965 during the sexual revolution, and through its investigative reporting and irreverent editorial, it fought for progressive causes including women’s rights, civil rights, the rights of Vietnam Veterans and helped changed the world – none of which could have been possible without our right to free speech,” Costas explained.

“Yes, we still love the girls but we are also passionate about free speech and letting all voices have a forum, a Penthouse Forum, to be heard.

“Whether it was Martin Luther King and the freedom riders in the 1960s or Milo Yiannopoulos in 2017, free speech is part of Australia’s robust democracy and the cornerstone of Western civilisation.  Penthouse is proud to be bringing Milo’s Troll Academy Tour to Australia.”

Mumbrella has approached Southern Cross Austereo for comment.
