Dr Mumbo

Three million reasons to leave ‘the best job in the Australian media sector’

A lot can change in a month.

On July 11, Dr Mumbo’s colleague Tim Burrowes interviewed SBS managing director James Taylor for ABC Radio National’s Medialand show. He asked whether Taylor would serve his full term through until 2028. Taylor’s reply:

“I love the job. I regard my job as the best job in the Australian media sector.

“It is a brilliant, constructive, energetic team to be part of, and I absolutely intend to be there for as long as the board will have me.”

Do you intend to go through to the end of your term?

“That’s the point of a term. I’ve signed up for another term and my intent is to serve it, and I’ll keep the job and I’ll stay motivated for as long as I feel like I’m adding value in the job.”

James Taylor, August 12:

“I’m thrilled to be joining Ooh at such an exciting time for the business and the Out of Home sector, the fastest growing sector in the Australian media landscape. I look forward to bringing my experience working in diverse media organisations to Ooh, as well as working collaboratively with the Board and management team to supercharge the delivery of our strategy for the benefit of our customers, people and shareholders.”

In matters no doubt unrelated to James Taylor leaving “the best job in the Australian media sector”, Ooh Media has shared details of his remuneration in his new role. Taylor will get a base of $1,344,000, plus a short term incentive of up to $750k, and an annual long term incentive of $1.3m.

Which all adds up to a potential $3.39m. Taylor was on $986,712 with SBS.
