Three new directors join Australian Marketing Institute board

The Australian Marketing Institute has appointed three new members to its board, the organisation has announced.

The Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors effective from the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting on 18 October 2017. Congratulations to Peter Griffin, George Bell, and Mona Lolas who joined incumbent Directors Lynda Cavalera, Andrew Thornton, Nicholas Ridis, Nick Kariotoglou and Marco Cicchine.

Andrew Thornton will continue his role as Chair and Lynda Cavalera in her role as Deputy Chair.

AMI CEO and Company Secretary Lee Tonitto said, “The appointments strengthen our position as the pre-eminent marketing body in Australia. All directors bring years of experience and industry knowledge to the Board and will provide invaluable guidance on advancing the profession”.

AMI Chair, Andrew Thornton added that: “I look forward to working with the new Board as we continue to build on the transformation pathway that we have been on for the past couple of years. I would also like to thank retiring director, Patricia Duffy, for her significant contribution to AMI throughout her tenure.”

The new elected Directors will serve for a three-year term in accordance with the AMI Constitution, and at the end of their term in 2020 will be eligible for re-election. The co-opted Directors will serve for a two-year term.

New AMI Board Member Bios:

George Bell

George brings over 30 years marketing experience as both marketing practitioner and academic. George has previously held senior roles in Medicare and Medibank Private with a focus on communications and market research. Since 2001 George has lectured in marketing subjects at Swinburne University and Australian National University and has seen students dispersed into the business and government community with a strong belief in evidence based marketing. George has written extensively on Marketing over the last 17 years and has spoken at academic marketing conferences in Australia, New Zealand and overseas.

“I was recently honoured by being made a Fellow of the AMI. As a newly appointed member of the Board I believe I will bring energy and commitment to forging stronger links between the academic and practitioner side of marketing.”

 Peter Griffin

Peter is General Manager of the Real Estate Institute of NSW (REINSW). In this role, he oversees the entire operations of the Institute including membership, training, events, retail shop, marketing, sales, finance, customer service, facilities, IT, and HR.

Prior to this role, he founded a marketing business, as well as having held senior positions at large and small organisations in a range of industries such as telecommunications, healthcare, finance, software, and professional services.

A professionally-qualified marketer, trained by the UK Chartered Institute of Marketing, Peter is also a Chartered Accountant.

‘I am looking forward to being a part of the AMI Board and making a contribution to the continued growth of the AMI”, Peter says.

 Mona Lolas

Mona is an accomplished Global Sales and Marketing Executive with over 25 years of experience in the IT industry. She has international exposure in conducting business in Australia, APAC Regional and Global roles working in Vendors and Blue-Chip Companies.

Mona has built new lines of business, bringing new products to market and establishing vendor’s presence in the Asia Pacific region. She has extensive experience in go-to-market plans that directly support business growth objectives and drive significant and measurable ROI. In addition, she has led highly skilled marketing teams that deliver engagement with the channel and end users.

Prior to moving into consulting, Mona held senior executive positions with market leading organisations including Gartner, Symantec, Intel Security, IBM, Optus and Telstra.

Mona says she is looking forward to contributing to the Board and applying her passion for promoting women in leadership positions and advocating to empower young women to join the Marketing and IT industry.
