Ticker News adds ‘nuclear weapon’ Jeff Brown

World news and streaming service Ticker News has appointed Jeff Brown as head of commercial across the network.

Brown previously spent 14 years leading the commercial growth of Sky News Australia.

Brown has spent decades working in the media industry, across magazines, international media, free-to-air, and subscription TV, mobile and online.

Ticker CEO Ahron Young said: “We have just acquired a nuclear weapon.

“Having witnessed first hand how Jeff transformed Sky News into a multi-channel/multiplatform commercial success, he’s now back where he belongs – at a fast growing news network. Jeff is the most connected man I know, and I love watching that competitive glint in his eye whenever we discuss opportunities,” Young said.

During his time at Australian News Channel, he grew Sky News from one channel to four broadcast channels. Launching Sky News Business in 2008 and Sky News Weather in 2015.

Brown said: “Ahron and I worked together at Australian News Channel. He was a standout talent that achieved over and above the resources provided to him. Like many in the industry I’ve been watching the growth of Ticker News since day one. The expansion to Ticker Park has propelled the network to a new level.”

“The exciting part for me is to build on the dramatic distribution growth to date and expanding Ticker’s commercial success. I’m joining an international news channel that isn’t restricted by shareholders nor held back by legacy distribution methods and editorial opinion,” Brown said.

Brown steered the launch of the international streaming service Australia Channel, which broadcast to Qantas lounges internationally.

Ticker’s chief operating officer Jed Bertalli said: “2022 is shaping up to be Ticker’s biggest year yet. Jeff Brown will help supercharge our growth.

“We now employ dozens of journalists and lead with data intelligence and a viewer-first approach. Ticker is leaving the traditional broadcast media model behind as we continue to onboard new distribution platforms across the world – Soon, we will be widely available in every territory,” Bertalli said.

Brown begins at Ticker next month, based in Sydney.

Brown career highlights:

  • Most recently, Brown directed all sales initiatives in the APAC region (excluding Japan), re-established the brand’s credibility in AU and NZ, successfully achieving double-digit sales growth each year as an executive director / country head with ISS compared to a 20% global target.
  • Championed the winning of a $4 million contract to supply Qantas in-flight news in 2014 including national distribution to all major airports in Australia, and the provision of a dedicated 24-hour digital Australian channel streamed to Qantas International airport lounges.
  • Provided Vodafone AU and Vodafone NZ with video content and dedicated 24-hour Vodafone News channels for their subscribers to view on smartphones in each market.
