Tilley, Hildebrand and Ferrier tested for Triple M drive show
National radio network Triple M has tested journalist Joe Hildebrand, media strategist Adam Ferrier and radio presenter Matt Tilley for its new national drive show, Mumbrella can reveal.
The tests follow the axing of Merrick and The Highway Patrol from the Southern Cross Austereo-owned station. The previous show, which ends this afternoon after two years, featured Merrick Watts, Julian Schiller and Rachel Corbett.
Mumbella understands the tests were enough of a success that Hildebrand has been offered a role with the radio network but not yet given an answer. Hildebrand, Ferrier and Tilley could not be reached for comment and it is unclear whether the network is seriously considering the trio.
While Tilley delivered his last breakfast show with Jo Stanley on SCA’s Fox FM in Melbourne today, it is understood network bosses are keen for him to continue his career in a nationally syndicated show at drive time.
Hildebrand is best known as opinion editor for News Corp’s Daily Telegraph. He is currently on a sabbatical to coincide with his first weeks as a panelist on Ten’s mid-morning show Studio 10, although he is still writing his column.
Ferrier this week took up a new role as chief strategy officer of the creative agency CumminsRoss, and was a founding partner of Naked Communications. He is also a regular on ABC radio and the Gruen series.
Southern Cross Austereo declined to comment.
Wow…that lineup would defiantly not make me listen to Triple M anymore in the drivetime if that happens.
Still don’t know why they axed Merrick and The Highway Patrol – was it over $$, format change???
Anyone in the know about that?

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 1,000 times, (edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy).

I can’t see Ferrier on that show. And I mean that as a compliment to Ferrier. “In depth consumer psychology with your AC/DC”?

Not only is Adam really cool but he also has incredible taste in music. Will definitely be switching over from 2UE if this happens

Joe Hildebrand seems to be better loved by TV and radio execs than he is by the audience, especially in the commercial realm.
I guess it’s easier to haul in the usual suspects than it is to search for new talent.

Love it.

does it for me.

@ Nickk… I find it highly, highly, highly unlikely Adam is being sought out so he can spin his favourite tunes. I think most radio stations have ‘music directors’ etc for that sort of stuff. Best stay with 2UE.

I liked Adam Ferrier on Gruen, but that was because his looks contributed to his avant-garde and entertaining personality. I don’t know how he could transfer that to the non-visual medium of radio.

Even though I never watch the breakfast shows, I like Joe Hildebrand. At least, he doesn’t wallow in PC crap and tells it like it is.
