Tim Burrowes to work with Diversified Communications and Mumbrella on new project

Mumbrella founder Tim Burrowes will continue to work with Diversified Communications and Mumbrella on a new project after his final day as a retained staff member last Friday.

Burrowes, who founded Mumbrella with Martin Lane and Ian Wakeling in 2008, will retain the title of editor-at-large and will develop a Substack newsletter titled ‘Unmade’, a reference to his recently published book Media Unmade.

He announced the news in his final time writing Best of the Week, which will now be penned by Mumbrella’s head of content, Damian Francis.

“Mumbrella’s owner Diversified Communications is supporting me,” Burrowes wrote. “Unmade will be a partnership with Mumbrella. Happily, that means that although I’ll be leaving Mumbrella’s staff, I’ll be retaining the title of editor-at-large, and will still be an occasional contributor.

“Much like Mumbrella’s formative years, I promise to be honest about how it’s going,” he continued. “That story will be part of the Unmade story. I might well fail to make a go of it, but I’d like to be one of the first journalists in Australia to try.”

Burrowes will take a short break after finishing up on staff at Mumbrella before beginning to start working on Unmade.

He said that after the time off “…I’ll work out exactly what Unmade is. Please do sign up via this link. You’ll see that it’s, erm, something of a work in progress.”

He can still be contacted on tim@mumbrella.com.au.
