Time Out Australia has made Michael Rodrigues sole CEO of the business as former fellow joint CEO Justin Etheridge has moved to the role of deputy managing director at the company’s main shareholder, The Intermedia Group.

The announcement:

Time Out Australia has announced that former joint CEO, Michael Rodrigues, will take over full managerial control of the business as its sole CEO this month.

The move comes after a highly successful year for the business, including a number of sell-out events such as the first ever Bar and Food Awards for Time Out Melbourne, Time Out Sydney’s sixth Bar Awards, a debut Sydney For Visitors winter guide and a cross-platform content campaign for MasterCard. The business has also seen substantial growth across both readership and revenue, both up well over 20 per cent on the previous year.

Since setting up Time Out in Australia with co-founder Etheridge in 2007, Rodrigues has been instrumental in commercialising the brand’s AB audience through cross-platform sales and establishing Time Out as Australia’s leading urban publisher. His ambition now is to accelerate the expansion of the Time Out brand in Australia and New Zealand, and further diversify the company’s revenue streams.

Rodrigues explains: “2013 was a defining year for us as we executed our full product range in Sydney and Melbourne markets, including our Bar and Food Awards series. With continued growth projected throughout 2014, my main focus will be on the diversification of our business in the market, developing new revenue streams through content creation and licensing, and launching some exciting new initiatives that we’ll be announcing in the coming months.”

Further new appointments at the company have also been announced, including Justin Steinlauf as account manager. Steinlauf was previously a travel specialist at TNT Magazine and will be in charge of growing Time Out’s travel offering. Linn Johannson, who comes from a strong background in the liquor and hospitality industries, will also be joining as event coordinator, reporting into Elise Bucholtz, who has been promoted to brand manager.

Former fellow joint CEO, Justin Etheridge, has been appointed to the role of deputy managing director at the company’s main shareholder, The Intermedia Group, and continues his involvement in Time Out Australia in the capacity of executive director and co-founder.
