Time flies when you’re a newscaster who can’t remember what month it is
Live news is tough.
In that fast developing situation, how on earth can a newscaster be expected to keep up with what month it is?
Nine’s Newsbreak presenter Tom Steinfort was keen to tell the world about Sydney’s struggles with the sweltering weather. He, however, found himself unable to settle upon whether it was September or November. Sadly, as his “issues with some of our services” began to escalate, the word “December” seemed to leave his head entirely.
Steinfort, usually one of Nine’s reporters on the road, was presumably being given a try-out for a presenting slot in the quiet summer non-ratings season.
Which made Dr Mumbo think of the movie Broadcast News, when Aaron Altman finally gets his chance at the desk.
Given that the camera never returned to Steinfort’s face, it’s hard to say for sure whether he too wished that he was dead.
But if ever you wanted to see 60 seconds of television that feels like an hour, then your Christmas wish has been granted.
