It’s time to get ready for augmented reality
If CES 2018 in Las Vegas taught us anything, it’s that AR is finally moving out of the think pieces and into the ‘real’ world, explains experimental scientist Matt Adcock in this crossposting from The Conversation.
The world’s largest annual consumer technology show — CES 2018 in Las Vegas — ends today and some of the most exciting gadgets this year were on display in the augmented reality (AR) marketplace.
This follows the news, announced in December, that 2018 will be the year the previously secretive company Magic Leap joins the likes of Microsoft, Meta, ODG, Mira and DAQRI to launch an AR headset.
At the same time we are seeing Apple, Google, Facebook, Snap and others rushing to release platforms for smartphone-based AR.
Mobile augmented reality technology allows users to overlay digital content with physical objects in real-time and environment with handheld devices and augmented reality apps. The use of 3D cameras for visualization and 3D rendering with device cameras is majorly driving this market. Augmented reality application developers and mobile manufacturers focus on the market dynamics to provide less expensive, highly accurate, and fast mobile augmented reality devices & software applications.
The total mobile augmented reality market is expected to reach USD 79.77 Billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 69.85% between 2016 and 2022. The base year used for this study is 2015 and the forecast period is from 2016 to 2022.
