TKM9 creates BlackBerry avatar maker for Indonesian market

Australian-based digital and creative agency TKM9 has created in-store displays for a new BlackBerry retail store in Jakarta, Indonesia. The displays allow customers to make avatars for their BlackBerry phones.

The announcement:

‘Avatar’ augmented reality technology inspires Indonesian BlackBerry market
Leading Australian-based digital and creative agency TKM9 – in conjunction with BlackBerry – has ignited the Indonesian mobile market with stunning in-store displays for a new BlackBerry retail store in Mal Kelapa Gading, Jakarta.
Drawing on their extensive technology and creative smarts, TKM9 has pulled out all the stops for the BlackBerry in-store experience in Indonesian mobile stores, which uses the latest in face recognition ‘augmented reality’ to enable consumers to create their very own personalised BlackBerry avatar.

A custom-designed ‘avatar maker’, featured on in-store displays, takes people through a choice of avatar options; once their favourite is selected, they take a photo, enter their email and the file is sent to them – it can then be easily uploaded and saved as their very own Blackberry avatar. Said Mark Hodgens, TKM9s Managing Director/Partner: “As far as we know, this type of in-store augmented reality display is a first for the Indonesian market. It’s an amazing way for people to directly interact with the brand and add their personal touch, in this case an avatar, to the product.
Take up has been great and the market is responding to it really well.” Also developed by TKM9 (and featured just outside the new retail store) is a BlackBerry ‘Mind Talker’ augmented reality display in which bubbles appear above people as they pass by the BlackBerry store. Bubbles bring BlackBerry thoughts to life and offer consumers a unique immersive brand experience, quite unlike anything seen before in the Indonesian market.
