Today pulls 239,000 viewers following announcement of Karl Stefanovic’s departure

Nine’s breakfast program Today saw an audience jump following host Karl Stefanovic’s announcement he would leave the program with 239,000 metro viewers tuning in.

Tuesday’s episode, prior to the announcement of Stefanovic’s departure, managed 195,000 metro viewers.

According to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings Seven’s rival program Sunrise managed 269,000 metro viewers yesterday morning.

The day before Karl Stefanovic said he would be leaving the program, his brother, Peter Stefanovic announced he would be leaving the network after 15 years. Peter Stefanovic also fronts Weekend Today.

The most watched program for the evening was Seven News at 6pm, which managed 782,000 metro viewers compared to Nine News’ metro audience of 780,000.

Meanwhile, Seven’s the Big Bash League match between the Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers attracted 555,000 viewers for the second session and innings break.

The first session saw 528,000 metro viewers tune in.

The Big Bash League also managed to top the key advertising demographics 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Seven won the night with an overall audience share of 20.2% ahead of Nine’s 17%, ABC’s 12.9%, Ten’s 8.1% and SBS’ 3.9% share.

Across the multi-channels 9GO! had the largest audience share with 4.7%.
