APN News & Media today announced the appointment of Todd McLeay as Chief Operating Officer in New Zealand, a new direct report to APN’s CEO of New Zealand Media.
In this role, Mr McLeay will lead APN’s publishing businesses including The New Zealand Herald, its regional newspaper stable and New Zealand Magazines. He will join the company in January 2012.
Prior to this appointment, Mr McLeay was the CEO of the New Zealand Lotteries Commission from 2006, where he repositioned Lotteries and grew annual revenues by more than $200 million.
APN’s CEO, New Zealand Media, Martin Simons said he was delighted to have Mr McLeay on the team.
Mr Simons said the appointment of a COO was one of three new roles which the company was establishing to develop a more integrated business with a greater focus on multi-media advertising and circulation sales, and leveraging content across new channels.
“Todd’s success at Lotteries was achieved by harnessing the skills of his team and setting a bold vision for growth based on what was important to customers.
“This focus on customers and Todd’s proven ability to grow and develop teams will be a great asset to APN,” he said.
Mr Simons said that the new structure would enable him to focus on driving the transformation of the company into more high growth digital applications.
Mr McLeay said “I have greatly enjoyed my time at Lotteries but it is time to take on a new challenge. APN is the leading publisher in New Zealand and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with a great team that produces some of the best titles in the country and find new ways to unlock value for customers.”
Prior to leading the Lotteries Commission, Mr McLeay had senior marketing roles with New Zealand Post and Vodafone.
Mr McLeay is a Commerce graduate from Otago University with a major in marketing. He also completed the senior executive program at Columbia University, New York.
