Tom Elliott to take over 3AW Mornings in radio reshuffle
3AW has named its Drive host Tom Elliott to be its new Mornings presenter following the departure of Neil Mitchell, who will step down from the slot at the end of the year.
Elliott has hosted 3AW’s Drive for the past ten years, having begun his radio career on Triple R in 1993. His show was the top-rated program in the slot according to the latest GfK Radio 360 survey.

Mitchell and Elliott
In a tribute on his Drive show last Friday, Elliott said Mitchell has been “an enormous force” in his life.
“Neil is the person I’ve always looked up to as to how to do a really good radio talk-back program. And Neil is not gone. I mean he’s retiring – he’s still on air for another three months, so this is a little premature,” Elliott said on air.
“Neil, you are a giant for the industry. You’ve earned the right to do whatever you want to do in your retirement.”
3AW station manager Stephen Beers said: “Tom is the perfect choice to receive the baton from Neil Mitchell and build on his legacy of championing our listeners, holding politicians and business to account, and celebrating our great city of Melbourne.”
The replacement for Elliott in Drive will be Jacqui Felgate, who is familiar to 3AW audiences, having done a fill-in stints on Breakfast, Afternoons and hosting 3AW’s Friday night AFL coverage.
“It’s an absolute privilege to be in the 3AW Drive chair and I look forward to chatting to Melbourne every afternoon. One of the most remarkable things about 3AW is the role the station plays in the lives of our listeners and I’m so humbled to be able to hear their stories every day,” Felgate said.
Meanwhile, Tony Moclair will move from the Australia Overnight slot to take on Afternoons. Moclair is a comedy actor, writer and performer across radio and TV.
“Tony epitomises what 3AW is all about – information and entertainment – great companionship. The listeners love Tony, and he loves them right back,” said Beers.
Moclair said, “I’m looking forward to broadcasting from midday, instead of midnight, and I’m delighted to be wedged between Tom and Jacqui on the new looking and sounding 3AW.”
All three appointments are effective from January 2024.
