Tourism Australia partners with Qantas for new ‘G’day’ spot

Tourism Australia has extended its global ‘Come and Say G’Day’ platform, with a new spot in partnership with Qantas.

The TVC looks to position the local carrier as the airline of choice for international tourists seeking to explore the full breadth of what Australia has to offer.

The co-created multi-market campaign stars animated mascot Ruby the Roo as she explores an array of Australian destinations and engages with friendly Qantas flight attendants.

The spot is voiced by Rose Byrne, who plays Ruby the Roo in the ‘G’Day’ campaign launched by Tourism Australia and M&C Saatchi in October.

The partnership will extend to 10 international markets, including the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia and India.

The Qantas partnership was announced by Tourism Australia when the campaign first launched, with the original ‘G’day’ film made available to view on Qantas aircrafts from December 2022.

At the time, Tourism Australia managing director Phillipa Harrison, said: “working with our commercial partners in key markets” would be a “crucial part of the campaign”. More than 150 commercial partnerships are set to help meet the demand created by the campaign.

“We are excited to announce that we have Qantas as our major airline partner across multiple markets,” added Harrison. “And you might see Ruby hopping on a Qantas plane in the near future.”

Qantas Group chief marketing officer, Petra Perry, said the partnership showcases how to plan and book trips to Australia with Qantas and encourages international visitors to discover regional centres as well as its major gateway cities.

“Qantas is proud to be the airline partner for Tourism Australia’s Come and Say G’day campaign. In addition to driving inbound visitation, the campaign is building awareness that international tourists can easily travel directly to Australia and explore over 65 destinations across the country when they choose to fly with Qantas.”
