Tourism NT showcases the Red Centre on Instagram as part of ‘Hypermeet’ social media campaign

Tourism NTTourism Northern Territory is showcasing the Red Centre on Instagram as part of the tourism body’s ‘Hypermeet’ social media campaign which will see three Australian Instagrammers use the platforms hyperlapse video function to capture images of Alice Springs, Kings Canyon and Uluru.

The tourism body appointed a panel of 16 agencies to handle its creative and media services at the end of last month.

The ‘Hypermeet’ is part of a broader campaign to promote Alice Springs as the gateway to the Red Centre, with the Instagrammers Matt and Mia Glastonbury and Matthew Vandeputte taking a six day journey from the city to Kings Canyon and ending at Uluru.

The trio are known for their use of the timelapse technique which allows users to accelerate up to 45minutes of footage to create a compact video clip.

The campaign follows on from last year’s Instameet campaign which saw seven Instragrammers promote Darwin’s Mindil Beach Sunset Markets.

Adam Giles, chief minister, said: “Since hosting Australia’s first Instameet, we’ve seen this social media format take tourism marketing by storm. With this in mind, we’ve created the Hypermeet concept, inviting influential social media players to use Instagram differently by sharing their NT experience through timelapse and hyperlapse videos, showcasing everything there is to see and do.

“The Hypermeet campaign is timed to coincide with our Alice Springs campaign, putting renewed focus on marketing the town as the gateway to the Red Centre. Developing this kind of new and industry-leading social media campaign is an important part of our marketing strategy. The endorsement of these influential third party advocates is invaluable.”

As part of the territory’s social media marketing strategy, Tourism NT engaged professional Instagrammer Lauren Bath as an  an ambassador through its ‘Mates of Territory’ program.
