Toyota’s Legendary Moments relives memorable Steve Waugh century
Toyota’s latest ad in its long running Legendary Moments campaign relives a “legendary moment” in Australian Test cricket, with the commercial featuring Steve Waugh and comedians Steve Curry and Dave Lawson.
The new commercial, from Publicis Mojo, features Steve Waugh reliving the moment the former cricket captain notched up a century on the last ball of the days play during the final Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2003.
Fifteen second teasers will air during the first Ashes test and will direct fans to view the two and a half minute content piece at the Toyota website and YouTube channel. The video will also be hosted on the video section of the Official Cricket Australia app.

Grant Rutherford, Publicis Mojo national ECD, said: “Working on a popular and loved campaign such as Legendary Moments comes with responsibility to deliver to what the audience has come to expect and, hopefully, something bloody funny. But the audience will be the judge of that. Moving into cricket provides us with a wealth of Legendary Moments that we look forward to dramatising in the unique Toyota way in the coming years.”
The first Legendary Moments ad was created by Publicis Mojo in 2004 and focused on the AFL. Each of the 14 ads of the campaign has featured comedians Steve Curry and Dave Lawson.
Brad Cramb, Toyota’s divisional manager national marketing, said: “We know there is a large crossover of fans from football in the winter months to following cricket in the summer and taking our now familiar, storytelling approach of the Legendary Moments campaign will help us to engage and connect to Toyota’s sponsorship of Australian cricket. As the campaign has helped us do so with our sponsorship of the AFL.”

A great sustainable campaign – The concept was created by Steve Jackson, when Darren was ECD at Mojo. I remember the delight we all had that the pommie Jacko came up with such an idea. It has been great to see it continue, and Toyota have acknowledged the success by keeping it alive. Great to see that Dave Schack working on this. Michelle has worked on it for quite some time and given it legs. But you have to give credit to great ideas to the original source. So I say Jacko well done, Dazza well done, Corey well done… and Sally. In the midst of crazy days of Mojo there were ideas like this coming out of the agency every day. May the 5 people that still hold Mojo Melbourne together grow to be 100 like it was when I was there. #GoldenDays
