Facts beat sport in Sunday’s television ratings battle

Nine’s factual-based Sunday lineup narrowly saw off the challenge of Ten’s Big Bash cricket last night.

The 6pm Nine News bulletin was the most watched program for the evening with 930,000 metro viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.

And Nine’s summer editor of 60 Minutes – which averaged 623,000 – combined with Inside Story, which rated 429,000, to help Nine win the night with a share of 17.0%, just in front of Ten which averaged 16.4% and Seven with 15.6%.

Meanwhile, Big Bash performed strongly for Ten. Sydney Thunder travelled to Tasmania to take on the Hobart Hurricanes, with the visitors’ successful run chase drawing an average metro audience share of 785,000.

The match was the most watched non-news program for the evening in All People and the key advertising demographics of 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

 

ABC’s Grand Design’s Special airing at 7.40pm was the most watched program for the channel averaging 624,000 viewers.

And Seven’s Gold Coast Medical averaged 548,000 viewers while Border Security managed 443,000.

For the evening’s movie showings, Seven’s psychological thriller The Bone Collector saw 367,000 tune in, while Nine’s airing of Double Jeopardy rated 329,000.

In the breakfast battle, Nine’s Weekend Today narrowly saw off Seven’s Weekend Sunrise by 281,000 to 272,000.
