TV ratings: Thursday offers up a surprise three-way battle

Nine, Seven, and Ten all put up impressive numbers last night in what turned out to be one of the most hotly contested nights of television in quite some time.

Nine took the night, with 26%, compared to Seven’s 24.5%, and Ten’s 24.2%.

Seven’s news coverage didn’t outpace Nine’s by as big a margin as usual, while The Chase and a triple-dose of Home and Away episodes were their biggest entertainment wins.

RBT and Hot Seat worked well for Nine, while celebs did the trick for Ten: Celebrity Gogglebox Australia, The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition, and of course the year’s biggest celebs, The Matildas taking on Iran.

ABC did well, too, with 17.4% – usually an impressive result, but overshadowed yesterday.
