TV rumour mill goes into overdrive; grad salary story sparks a hot debate; how brands should approach The Voice and a chat with Kochie

The team chats through David 'Kochie' Koch's departure from Seven's Sunrise and who's likely to replace him, and if next-day TV ratings are too old fashioned, as Seven's Mel Hopkins argued in an op-ed this week. Plus, a discussion about last week's media grad salaries exclusive. Then, a catch up with Kochie on his time at Brekky Central, before Cox Inall Ridgeway's Yatu Widders Hunt checks in to talk about how brands should approach The Voice referendum.

On Monday morning, David ‘Kochie’ Koch announced his departure from Seven’s popular breakfast show Sunrise after 21 years in the job. Koch said he plans to focus more on his Ausbiz venture and interest in Pinstripe Media, as well as family and travel.

Then, Seven’s chief marketing and audience officer, Melissa Hopkins took aim at the overnight TV ratings model in an op-ed that hit the Mumbrella site earlier this week, arguing it is archaic and “deserves to be in a museum”. Hopkins discusses the introduction of VOZ and how the industry should be reporting more on it to “focus on the big picture”.

Finally, the team chat through the comments on a recent Mumbrella exclusive about media grad salaries.

Editorial assistant Lauren McNamara then catches up with Kochie about his time at Sunrise. He talks through his proudest moments and his regrets, as well as the overwhelming support he has received since his big announcement.

Then, Cox Inall Ridgeway’s Yatu Widders Hunt checks in with editor Shannon Molloy to talk about brands approaching a stance on The Voice referendum. She chats about who is doing it well, and what other brands need to look for in their strategies.
