Twitter to make first Australian public appearance at Mumbrella360
Melissa Barnes, global head of brand and agency advocacy at Twitter, is to make the first Australian public address by the social network at Mumbrella360.
It is the first time anyone from the micro-blogging giant has appeared at a major conference in the Australian market. Twitter made its first Australian hires earlier this year.
Barnes will discuss how brands and agencies can more effectively engage with Twitter and use the service as apart of a marketing strategy. The keynote, to take place at the beginning of the second day of the conference, will include time for audience questions.
Barnes, who is based in San Francisco, was formerly senior vice president at Fleishman-Hillard where she led the New York consumer digital team.
This year has signalled a focus on Australia from the social network, with the launch of local its Australian operation.
Mumbrella360 takes place on June 5 and 6 at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney.
What a great keynote.. Mumbrella 360 leads the way!

Melissa will be a great presenter for Mumbrella 360, but a minor correction on “first time anyone from the micro-blogging giant has appeared at a conference in the Australian market”. We ran #TwitterBrekky events in Melbourne and Sydney last year with over 500 sports executives and social media marketers attending at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne and at SCG in Sydney where Mike Brown from Twitter presented along with colleagues Omis Ashtari, Jenna Mannos and Lauren Fisher.

Thanks, Sean,
I’ve added the weasel word “major”.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Thanks Tim, #TwitterBrekky was an under the radar but very successful event as Twitter didn’t want any more press than they were already getting. Hopefully by June some of the work they are doing with sports & politics will be more visible.

I agree that Melissa will be a very relevant and interesting speaker and a plus for the conference. Just a side note – Dom Sagolla, one of the co-creators of Twitter, and author of the defintive guide to tweeting – “140 Characters – a style guide for the short form”, was the keynote at National Radio Conference in Melbourne in October 2010 attracting a high level of media interest. While Dom was not with Twitter at the time of his keynote his involvement in its establishment and guidelines for the art of tweeting made for an interesting session for the 600 conference attendees.

I would say that 500 people at the #twitterbrekky is already major …
