Twitter’s head of communications Stewart Russell departs
Twitter’s head of communications for ANZ, Stewart Russell, has departed after seven years with the social media platform.
Russell wrote about his departure on LinkedIn, indicating his intention to return to the UK.
“[I] feel hugely privileged and proud to have been on the front line of the company’s journey since 2013. It genuinely blows my mind reflecting on some of the things I’ve been lucky enough to work on, and the people I’ve come to know across the globe through this role,” he wrote.
Russell moved to Australia in 2019 to take up the post of the region’s head of comms. He joined Twitter in the UK as an intern and worked up through the business until becoming acting head of communications for the UK in 2018.
The search for Russell’s replacement is underway, with a job posting for the position of Australian head of communications calling for a candidate with a background in PR and communications with consumer or online brands.
The role involves managing media relations programs, writing press releases, organising press events, managing speakers bureau activities, driving creative campaign development and handling crisis communications.
Twitter’s PR agency in Australia is Sling & Stone.
Russell has been contacted for further comment. Twitter declined to comment.
