Two and a Half Men nears 2.3m as Ashton Kutcher has his debut

The first episode to feature Ashton Kutcher instead of Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men was an enormous ratings win for Nine last night with the episode pulling in 2.293 million.

The episode at 8:33pm began with the funeral of Sheen’s character Charlie Harper and introduced Kutcher as Walden Schmidt, a billionaire who had stumbled into Harper’s home after trying to commit suicide by drowning after being dumped by his girlfriend. Harper was revealed to have died after slipping on a subway platform and getting hit by a train.

A repeat of Sheen’s final episode at 8:06 aired prior to Kutcher’s debut and pulled in 1.732 million according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam. Another repeat episode also aired at 7:35 and received 1.438 million.

The debut of Tony Martin and Ed Kavalee’s new comedy show about TV, Joy of Sets, followed the Kutcher episode and received 1.165 million. The Charlie Sheen Roast followed where comedians poked fun at the TV star while he sat on stage and laughed. It pulled 810,000.

Research from Roy Morgan released this week saw Two and a Half Men drop from its top spot as Australia’s most-loved show last year to third this year.

Over at Seven, Packed To The Rafters at 8:30 ranked third for the night with 1.638 million.
