Uber Eats and G Flip drum up excitement for KFC via Special

Uber Eats and Special Australia have enlisted Australian singer and drummer G Flip to launch KFC onto the on-demand delivery platform with an unconventional drumroll using KFC’s chicken drumsticks.

The campaign continues Uber Eat’s use of Australian celebrities in its local spots, having debuted its campaign with the Irwin family and Paris Hilton earlier this year.

The campaign is spearheaded by a 45-second spot created by Special Australia, with the launch to be amplified via PR and social activations developed together with Mediacom and Hello Social.

The 45-second spot sees G Flip sitting at a drum kit on stage in an empty theatre, starting with the Uber Eats motif of a delivery bag being delivered on stage, as a doorbell sounds rings out. Taking a set of chicken drum sticks, G Flip plays an impressive solo drum roll before leaving the stage with their KFC order.

Uber Eats, director of marketing ANZ, Andy Morley, said: “We’re pumped to have KFC available on Uber Eats and we’re thrilled to be partnering with an artist of G Flip’s character and quality. They’re not just a sublime musical talents but also a genuine fans of Uber Eats. We’ve been hoping to link up with them for some time – this was the perfect way to do it.”

“Announcing KFC is finally on Uber Eats is a simple message that just needed a bold execution to bring the two brands’ personalities together,” said Sarah Parris, creative director, Special. “Playing the drums with KFC Drumsticks seemed to offer the perfect amount of unconventional charm, energy and drama.”

The film and OOH will run alongside a socially integrated competition in which users can compete in a ‘chicken thumbroll’ for the chance to win prizes; including Uber Eats codes, signed G Flip merch and limited edition chicken-shaped drumsticks. Special worked closely with Ogilvy – KFC’s creative agency – to bring the campaign to life.

KFC Australia, chief marketing officer, Sally Spriggs, said “KFC has been a big supporter of Aussie music for some time now, so being able to partner with the amazing G Flip for the next phase of our Uber Eats launch is something we’re excited for.”

The campaign will roll out across TV, OLV, BVOD, OOH, social, CRM and PR in the coming days.
