UM and UTS team for student recruitment drive

Media agency UM has helped UTS reach potential students in an online recruitment drive through social media.

The announcement:

UM and UTS:INSEARCH have engaged a combination of technology and social media to drive a 200%+ increase in a key student recruitment drive so far in 2013.

In a radical departure from education-related recruitment programs, 10 current and former UTS:INSEARCH students were recruited to help market the Student Perspectives Program at the education provider. Each was given expert social-media training, a customised Twitter account and an iPad.

The students could post about topics of greatest interest to prospective students and respond to incoming questions. Each post is directed through the use of the four key topics of greatest interest #UniOffer #Studentlife # CampusLife and #Career. The program allowed prospective students to follow existing and past students on social media to get a unique, first-hand perspective of life at the higher education provider.

James Filmer, Chief Innovation Officer at UM, said: “We know how daunting the myriad of websites and study guides can be for prospective students, so we created a platform to provide them with access to the most personal and insightful perspective of UTS:INSEARCH available – that of current and past students themselves.”

Belinda Howell, General Manager, Sales and Marketing for UTS:INSEARCH, said; “Thanks to the innovative nature of the program, we have already seen traffic to our campaign landing page improve by 216% on the same period last year. Within a competitive higher education marketplace, it’s crucial for UTS:INSEARCH to differentiate not just what we say, but in the way in which we communicate with prospective students. The Student Perspectives Program is a perfect example of this and it has been a well-crafted opportunity to showcase our greatest achievement –  – the success of our students.”

To help broadcast the insights being shared throughout the program, tweets were also syndicated to Facebook, promoted through online advertising and pulled into UTS:INSEARCH’s website in real-time.

A private higher education provider, UTS:INSEARCH offers graduating HSC students who miss out on a university offer the opportunity to fast track into the 2nd year of a UTS degree through one of their diploma programs.
