UM Government head moves to dentsu as media chief operating officer

Dentsu has nabbed UM’s Government lead, Brett Elliot, for the newly created role of chief operating officer – media.

Focusing on supercharging operational efficiencies and client success across dentsu’s Carat, iProspect, and dentsuX, Elliot will lead and build client excellence across the three media agencies.

He brings decades of experience to the new role, including over 10 years at MediaCom, and more recently, six-and-a-half years at UM Australia, where he was managing director and led the Australian Federal Government media account.

“I am really looking forward to joining dentsu, a company that has a genuine history of innovation and a set of capabilities across its brands that are second-to-none,” Elliot said of his appointment.

“Specifically on the media side, Carat, iProspect and dentsuX are all exciting businesses with great potential.

“With so much change in our industry, there is a huge opportunity to harness the best of technology and combine that with great people to deliver real client outcomes. I’m delighted to be a part of the team and to help drive the momentum that dentsu is already building.”

Elliot will build on the momentum the media agencies have demonstrated over the past 12 months, including several new business wins across the board.

Fiona Johnston, dentsu Australia’s CEO of media, client counsel, and commercial, said she’s thrilled to bring Elliot into the business.

“His ambition and care are second to none, and I know he will add great value, bringing a sense of passion and purpose to our client operational excellence and future thinking for the team, in tech and tools,” she said.

“For those who know him, he is also just a great human, and a solid and authentic leader, which adds to our culture. Brett brings a strong sense of trust and community, as well as groundbreaking media expertise to ensure our operations are world class, and industry leading.”
