Uncle Tobys remakes iconic 80s ‘that’s no’ how you make porridge’ ad
Uncle Tobys Oats has remade its iconic ‘that’s no’ how you make porridge’ 80s advertisement.
Promoting its Breakfast Bakes, McCann and Uncle Tobys have turned the iconic 80s line ‘that’s no’ how you make porridge’ into ‘it’s how you bake porridge’.
The 15 second advertisement features a Scottish father and son as his son struggles to understand whether his dad is saying “make” or “bake”.
As well as a TV ad, the campaign will feature a suite of famous Australians continuing the narrative online.
Michelle Katz, head of marketing at Cereal Partners Worldwide Oceania, said in a statement: “We’re extremely proud of our new Breakfast Bakes, which give Aussies the goodness of oats on the go. This new campaign reminds people why UNCLE TOBYS Oats is Australia’s favourite brand of oats and brings back the nostalgia of an ad everyone loved.”

The accents of the father and son are terrible ……. you should have employed “ real “ Scottish people …….. this is an insult to Scots ?

Agreed. This is embarrassing to watch.
Absolutely cringe worthy.
God knows who thought these people sounded Scottish. Insulting doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Worst accent in the world!

If this was directed at any other ethnic community it would be condemned as racist. What a disgrace. Uncle Toby’s should be ashamed of this nonsense. I hope the media company who produced it didn’t get paid.

Did they even bother to try and get the accents remotely right? Ive heard some god awful attempts at a scots ‘accent’ ( we have more than one!) But this one is just awful, poor execution ot a poor pitch.

Why was this discriminatory ad allowed? As a Scottish born ad i find it reprehensible that is allowed on tv. If it was a jewish or black or other ethnic group, father and son talking like that it would never be allowed on air. Uncle Tobys my lawyers will be in touch.

Lighten up people. You obviously weren’t around for the original ad from 30 years ago. No-one complained about it then

Yes! Yes! Yes! To all of the above comments. I am a fairly laid back Scotswoman living in New Zealand and normally I wouldnt dream of commenting on something like this, but seriously?!!!!? You couldn’t find two actors with real Scottish accents? Get this bloody awful advert off the Tele NOW. Ya bawbags!

Totally agree with all the comments. Worst attempts at Scottish accents I’ve ever heard. Seriously annoying and not even remotely funny 🙁
