Universal Sony Pictures aim to boost DVD sales this Christmas with out-of-home campaign

Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Australia is looking to boost sales of DVDs this Christmas with an interactive digital campaign which allows shoppers to browse available DVDs at nearby retailers.Ooh media digital campaign

The campaign, created in partnership with Ooh Media and Slingshot, uses Ooh Media’s Excite touch screens to give shoppers the opportunity to select and buy DVD presents.

The campaign encourages shoppers to be a ‘gifting hero’ by helping shoppers come up with DVD gift ideas.

Ooh Media’s excite screens allows browsers to select who they are buying for and their favourite movie genre resulting in a shortlist recommendation of six DVDs, which is then texted to the user along with which retailers they can purchase the DVDs from.

The screen holds close to 90 movies and TV series DVDs which can be previewed on-screen with the option of a synopsis or audio trailer.

Cindy McCulloch, Universal Sony’s director of marketing and corporate strategy, said: “We passionately believe movies and TV series make excellent gifts for Christmas as they allow us to escape into wonderful worlds and new adventures.

“We worked with out agency, Slingshot and Ooh to create a category-first execution to remind audiences of our profound love for truly great stories, and to make gifting easy.”

Blair Hamilford, commercial director at Ooh Media, said: “The DVD gift selector campaign is a smart way for Universal Sony to increase exposure of its DVD range and drive demand in-store.

“The campaign encourages greater engagement between consumers and brands by solving shoppers’ problems, driving them in-store and to the Universal Sony website.”

The Christmas gift selector campaign will run through some of Australia’s biggest retail centres through Ooh’s Excite screens and Shopalive network.

The interactive campaign falls under the umbrella of Sony entertainment’s ‘Escape’ advertising campaign.
