Viewers stay up for late night tennis

The epic Djokovic – Nadal final in the Australian Open saw an audience increase on last year despite running to nearly 2am in the eastern states.

The match – which ran until 1.37 am – rated an average of 1.863m viewers, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam. This was up 34.7% on last year.  

The audience for the lengthy five set game peaked at 2.803m, up by 43.5% on last year’s three set Djokovic – Murray final.

Meanwhile, the second “Super Sunday” of Ten’s early run into the ratings battle delivered the network solid results. All of the network’s key evening shows edged in above 1m viwers.

Young Talent Time rated 1.08m, up fractionally on last week. Modern Family rated 1.16m, also up slightly on last week.

Comedy New Girl rated 1.29m. US drama Homeland rated 1.17m.

Earlier in the evening, The Project rated 407,000, also up slightly on last week.

Seven dominated share for Sunday with 37.7%, Ten was on 18.8% and Nine on 14%. ABC took 9.4% and SBS1 3.6%.
