The payments giant confirmed Dempsey had left the role and the search for a new marketing leader was now underway but could not confirm when a decision would be made.

Dempsey has told her LinkedIn followers that she is now on a career break.

The marketer took on the lead role in 2014 after being promoted from director of product marketing for Australia. She had previously been marketing director for strategic innovations after joining Visa from her own marketing consultancy.

Not long after taking on the lead role Dempsey became a flag-bearer for the role of procurement in marketing, saying her early experiences had been positive.

Speaking at the Secrets of Agency Excellence conference in 2014, Dempsey said the success of procurement hinged on the quality of the people involved.

“I do think there is a sense from marketers of ‘Oh God procurement is involved’ but it comes down to the style of the procurement person you are working with,” Dempsey told a panel.

“They can add value because they do ask very good questions that marketers wouldn’t think to ask – about structural things, for example. They do have a skill set and if you get good people it can add value without being aggressive or making the agency feel uncomfortable.”
