Dr Mumbo

For a few Rubles more. Will Vladimir Putin scoop the Cannes Lions?

Dr Mumbo has always admired a well-executed integrated advertising campaign with a strong social media element, and few have been more subtle and effective than the Russian contribution to the 2016 US election.

So when Dan Robins, the Australia and New Zealand head of programmatic and data at Spotify, suggested the Russian Facebook efforts should be entered into the 2018 Cannes Lions, Dr Mumbo could only heartily agree.

“Given the negative sentiment surrounding digital, it’s really great to see an advertiser maximising a platform’s capability to drive on- and offline goals,” writes Robins.

“More importantly they were able to drive a real world outcome, all for mere rubles.”

Dr Mumbo agrees with Robins and would even sneak into the Cannes Palais to see Sir Martin Sorrell interview Vladimir Putin ahead of the FSB’s almost-certain Titanium Lion. The Russian president may even have some exciting ideas on fighting programmatic fraud.
