W Communications Asia marks 10 years with APAC expansion plan and growth
W Communications Asia has celebrated a decade of success in APAC with the announcement of an ambitious growth strategy, including new regional offices, acquisitions, and expanded creative capabilities.
The announcement:
W Communications Asia (“W”), the highly acclaimed independent communications agency, celebrated its first decade in APAC delivering impactful storytelling and driving brand growth, anchored by its Singapore office. To mark the occasion, the fast growing and award-winning agency has set out an aggressive expansion strategy as it looks to open multiple new offices in the region in the next 24 months. The agency will also look to deploy its significant war chest on acquisitions to further super charge its growth.
W Communications was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in London with offices in New York, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. After only 6 years of operation, it opened in Singapore in 2015 as a boutique agency. Since then, it has expanded its capabilities, client portfolio, and regional presence, evolving into a leading multi-sector integrated communications partner, achieving an average annual growth rate of 30% YoY.
W’s founder, Warren Johnson, first set his eyes on Singapore as an investor, backing a hamburger restaurant venture before laying the foundations for W Communications in Asia. Over the last 10 years, W strengthened its capabilities at speed winning multiple Agency of the Year and campaign awards and has had the privilege to work with some of the world’s leading clients such as Chanel, Marc Jacobs, foodpanda, McLaren, St. Regis, Maker’s Mark and Carlsberg.
Expanding key operations and client portfolio
More recently, W founder Warren Johnson appointed Robin Chang as general manager for APAC in January 2025, with the key mandate to elevate the agency to the next level in terms of both services and geography.
In just nine months he has already led W’s double-digit growth QoQ, doubled the team size and won new marquee clients that span across portfolio and countries. W has also expanded its client portfolio with global-listed companies and leading brands across technology, finance, fintech, real estate, hospitality, F&B, retail, and lifestyle sectors.
Some of the more recent notable client wins include:
- Capella Singapore, one of Singapore’s luxury 5-star hotels located in Sentosa
- Conrad Singapore Marina Bay, another of Singapore’s luxury 5-star hotels located in downtown
- Geneco, Singapore’s leading electricity retailer
- Lam Research, a global semiconductor equipment solutions provider
- Moet Hennessy Diageo, leader in the luxury wines and spirits sector
- SEON, the world’s fastest growing fraud prevention and AML compliance company
Regional growth ambitions backed by significant war chest
“Over the past 10 years, W has partnered with some of the most dynamic brands in the region by shaping the way they connect to their audience and through that, delivered amazing business results. But aside from just celebrating these wins, we are marking this milestone with a renewed zest for growth. We’re actively working to grow our talent pool and services in both high-growth and mature markets to capture the yet fully unlocked potential of the region through seeding local teams and strategic acquisitions,” said Robin Chang, General Manager, APAC, W Communications.
In addition, Robin has also driven W’s successful expansion geographically, with the agency now having a presence into markets such as China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam through local teams and affiliate partners.
Full-spectrum integrated creative capabilities
Following the inception of W’s integrated communications arm earlier this year, the team is also looking to expand its spectrum of creative capabilities, covering insights to impact. Within the last 12 months, the agency has scaled its social media and KOL practice with production capabilities that cater to the expanded client needs across the APAC market.
The content production arm is spearheaded via a joint venture with Bellow, a social and digital content production agency. The partnership has brought about client successes with brands like Hilton Asia Pacific, Far East Hospitality and the LHN Group, delivering multi-channel video and social content that drive meaningful engagement while addressing critical business needs.
Moving forward, following the footsteps of its headquarters based out of the London office, W will continue exploring new partnerships including embarking on joint ventures and acquisitions to expand its creative services and capabilities, leveraging on its significant war chest to fund this expansion.
The (W)inning formula
Central to W Communications’ success is its focus on the three Cs: Culture, Capabilities, and Client Success. The agency invests heavily in building talent through initiatives such as its W Passport program, providing opportunities to work across its global offices for greater industry exposure, and learning bursaries to encourage skills development.
“We’ve seen amazing regional growth in the last 10 years, but we are only just getting started,” said Warren Johnson, CEO, W Communications. “This new phase of growth for us will be guided by our ‘Three C’s’, but powered by a renewed commitment to the region. We are excited to have some of the most talented communication professionals in the industry, and we look forward to bringing this passion to brands that want to work with innovators and trend setters.”
