The Walkley Young Australian Journalist  of the Year Awards finalists have been announced.

The announcement:

The Walkley Foundation is thrilled to announce the finalists in the 2013 Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year Awards: our brightest young journalists representing the best of a new generation.

All finalists have been selected on the basis of journalistic excellence in the fundamental tenets of the craft as well as their ability to present distinctive and original journalism that pushes the boundaries of the profession.

Category winners will go into the running for the overall Young Australian Journalist of the Year Award. The prize is a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the CNN headquarters in Atlanta or New York or the BBC in London for a first-hand look at internationally significant news-makers, with all airfares and accommodation included.
