Warren Apps leaves Grey Canberra after nine years to join indie Coordinate
Grey has appointed new management in its Canberra office following the departure of long-serving general manager Warren Apps to join independent agency Coordinate Group.
Apps, who is president of the Australian Marketing Institute, left after more than nine years with Grey Canberra to join Coordinate, a full service agency with offices in Melbourne and Canberra, as partner/director.
Replacing him as GM is Tony Mansfield from brand agency Hulsbosch.
Matt Johnson joins Grey as creative director. He replaces Jan O’Connoll, who moves to a strategy planner role after 15 years as the agency’s creative director.
Johnson had spells at STW Group agencies Ogilvy and The Brand Shop, as well as DDB Sydney.
Luke Waldren, CEO, Grey Australia said: “Tony has a wealth of experience with deep relationships in the industry. He brings with him a long and successful history of advising companies on strategic branding and growth strategies.”
He added: “Matt’s creative talent and penchant for discovering new ideas is contagious and very complementary to our existing client relationships as we seek to expand our strong foothold in the industry. These hires reflect the steady progress we are making in the growth of our business in Canberra, as well as our commitment to providing deep industry knowledge and trusted, value-added advice for our clients.”
Ah, so that explains why Warren didn’t do his regular spot on 2CC Canberra this week where he discusses local TV ratings and reviews new TV ads. A pity he’s gone because he was the only source of information about local TV and marketing.

Wow… Big loss for Grey. Warren is mr advertising in this town and a nice bloke to boot – a rare combination. I think he’s still doing the radio segment – I heard the tail end of it last week.
