Web video ad network SpotXchange opens office in Australia

SpotXchange, an online video advertising network, has opened an office in Australia.

The company will be run by Vicki Lyon, who launched online ad network Tribal Fusion in Australia in 2008.

SpotXchange, which has been serving ads into this market since 2009, will use its North Sydney office as a hub for expansion into the rest of the region.

Lyon said that there was a shortage of online video inventory in Australia, and called on advertisers to create content specifically for online video, rather than repurpose TV ads.

“Too many advertisers are taking a TV ad, and simply sticking it online,” she said. “Online video campaigns are far more effective if interactivity is built into them.”

According to Frost & Sullivan, Australia’s online video advertising market is set to grow from $35m in 2010 to $180m by 2015.
