Wednesday night sees Masterchef top key demographics, but Seven take the overall win

Without The Voice to battle against Seven took an easy audience share win on Wednesday night, helped along by Seven News and Home and Away.

In the key demographics though, it was Masterchef’s night. The show topped all three key advertising demographics – 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s.

Ten was also the most-watched channel for metro audiences in the 16-39 demographic overall, holding 20.5% of the share. Ten also took the top spot for metro audiences in the 25-54s with 18.5%.

Seven News remained the most-watched show of the evening, a title it regularly holds, with 1.12m viewers tuning in for the first half and 1.074m for the second half which airs as Today Tonight in some cities. Nine News saw 962,000 viewers tune in.

Home and Away was the most-watched entertainment program, seeing 695,000 metro viewers, followed by ABC’s Anh’s Brush With Fame. 682,000 metro viewers tuned in to see the comedian paint singer and reality show judge Dannii Minogue.

Masterchef brought in 648,000 metro viewers for Ten, and drama Five Bedrooms saw 483,000 for its third outing. The show, from the writers of Offspring, premiered to 507,000 viewers.

A fairly quiet night for Nine meant Hot Seat and Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation were the two most-watched entertainment shows for the network, bringing in 567,000 and 503,000 metro viewers respectively.

Taking the overall audience share win was Seven with 20.3% for its main channel, followed by Nine on 17.1%, Ten on 13.6% and ABC on 13.4%.

In the networks the story was much the same, Seven took the top spot with 29.3%, followed by Nine on 25.4%, Ten on 20.6% and ABC on 18.0%.

Ten Bold was the most-watched of the secondary channels on 4.8%, followed by 4.2% for 9Go!
