Weekend heat plays havoc with horse racing advertising

The heat put the state at a standstill last weekend as the Apollo Stakes race meetings were postponed; however, advertisements for the meeting continued to run on TV.

In an article written by smh.com.au the Saturday event was estimated to generate more than $10m in betting turnover.

The race, which was postponed on Friday due to extreme heat, was estimated to have cost the industry approximately $5 million, according to the SMH.

It has been estimated that the return of the race to television on Seven Two will be down on the TAB by 30% on Monday.

Other advertisements shared in the lead up to the canceled race were also affected.

Randwick Appolo Stakes was not the only races to be canceled, with Saturday’s Kembla Grange races abandoned and Sunday’s Grafton meeting.
