Yellow is media’s new black

Yellow is the new black: The adland gang get ready to do time for UnLtd

Adland might have a bit of a reputation for attracting desperados, Dr Mumbo is aware.

Which may be why it seemed like a good brand fit for industry foundation Un Ltd to put together the ‘Adland Gang’ for Whitelion’s Sydney Bail Out event next month.

So several of media’s finest (and a couple of trade press hacks) will spend the night of Friday May 5 locked up at former juvenile detention centre the Yasmar Facility to raise funds and awareness for Whitelion, one of UnLtd’s charity partners. Whitelion connects at-risk young people with the community to educate them to make positive choices.

Dr Mumbo suspects that for some of the Sydney media types, Haberfield will be the furthest west of Leichhardt some of them will have been.

Participants must raise a minimum of $1,000 bail each to be released the next day.

The ‘inmates’ being voluntarily locked up include Megan Brownlow from PwC; Jason Pellegrino from Google; Aimee Buchanan from  OMD; Danny Bass from IPG Mediabrands; Ellie Rogers from Facebook; Vijay Solanki from the IAB; Ian McClelland from The Guardian; Adam Furness from RadiumOne; and UnLtd boss Paul Fisher.

Plus Mumbrella’s Tim Burrowes and AdNews editor Rosie Baker will also be joining the gang members.

Burrowes and Baker behind bars

Fisher said: “We often talk about how we can bring the industry together to unite around a social cause. It turns out inviting 20 of the most senior industry leaders to spend a night in jail is all it takes!

“The response to this event by these individuals is a testament to the commitment across all sectors of our industry to both raise the profile of a great charity and much needed funds, while sharing a unique experience, in this case, being locked up for a night.

“While I’m sure we will have some fun, we’re also there to learn how young people who choose a path to improve their lives need the support of charities like Whitelion who in turn need our support to fund their programs and services across the country. Please support this great event by bailing us out.”

Wanted: For crimes against posing

Bail Out exposes the ‘inmates’ to life on the inside – they will be stripped of possessions, fingerprinted, photographed and subjected to interrogation before witnessing a mock court proceeding and spending the night behind bars.

Those wishing to help ensure the participants see the sweet light of freedom the following morning – and help out WhiteLion – are invited to head online to the Whitelion Bail Out page and donate appropriately.

Dr Mumbo will be more grateful than you may realise…
