Winter Olympics opening ceremony scores 938,000 viewers

Friday’s Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony live from Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium saw 938,000 metro viewers tune into Seven’s coverage.

Airing at 8.30pm, the opening ceremony managed 1.221m nationally, however not all viewers were happy with some taking to social media to criticise commentators and the number of ad breaks.

According OzTAM’s preliminary overnight metro ratings, most of those watching the opening ceremony were in Sydney (252,000) and Melbourne (251,000).

The opening ceremony was the most watched program on Friday night TV and topped the key advertising demographics (16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s).

Commentators, Edwina Bartholomew and Basil Zempilas lead the opening ceremony coverage for Seven.

Viewers watch the ceremony took to Twitter to express their frustrations with the number of ad breaks and play-by-play commentary from the network.
