Woolworths’ Cartology completes $150m deal to acquire Shopper

Cartology, Woolworths Group’s retail media business has completed its $150 million purchase of Shopper, after receiving approval by the ACCC.

Woolworths confirmed the acquisition has been completed, which will allow Cartology to expand its range of integrated solutions for brands in the retail media space.

The Shopper deal is tied up after receiving ACCC approval

Managing director of Cartology, Mike Tyquin said: “We are pleased to confirm that we have completed our acquisition of Shopper Media. This is a significant step in the next stage of our growth, as we continue to reinvent how brands connect to customers along the customer journey.”

“Ed Couche, and the team at Shopper have built a thriving and successful business over the past six years and the acquisition of Shopper’s retail Out of Home advertising business, its capabilities and its team of more than 60, represents a great achievement for Shopper and a substantial milestone for Cartology.”

“This is an exciting time as we expand our businesses together, alongside brands, agencies and partners, working to shape the future of retail media.”

It’s understood both teams across Cartology and Shopper will continue to function as usual, with no immediate changes to workflows, products or services that either business provides also. The next steps will see the teams work to integrate Shopper into Cartology’s business in the coming months.

“We are incredibly enthusiastic about this next stage in our growth and are looking forward to welcoming the Shopper team to Cartology and the broader Woolworths Group.”

The digital out of home media company rebranded from Shopper Media Group to simply ‘Shopper’ in 2021, and specialises in targeted advertising, currently having over 2,000 screens across 400 shopping centres in Australia.

Tyquin appeared on the Mumbrellacast last month, where he spoke about Cartology, the growing retail media sector and the acquisition of Shopper.
