Woolworths makes sure footy fans aren’t hungry in AFL ad

Woolworths is showing its support for the AFL with an ad spot celebrating the foods eaten while watching the game.

The ad sees fans watching the AFL on TV and computer screens while enjoying a footy “feast” consisting of Woolworths’ food range.

Created by M&C Saatchi, the campaign also includes a voiceover of AFL broadcaster Denis Cornetti who provides commentary of people who are enjoying “a feast of goals, with mum’s sausage rolls” and “spectacular hangers with tasty bangers”.

Women’s AFL players Katie Brennan, Darcy Vescio and Nicola Stevens and men’s AFL players Jake Sidebottom, Tom Hawkins and Josh Kennedy are featured as part of the campaign.

The new work from the AFL’s fresh food partner aims to celebrate Friday night football rituals.

Andrew Hicks, director of marketing at Woolworths said the campaign highlights customers’ “passion for the game” and “how Australians come together over food to cheer their favourite team on”.

Tom McFarlane, M&C Saatchi’s creative partner added: “AFL fans have been starved of footy action. Timed to coincide with the men’s opening rounds and the inaugural Women’s grand final, Woolworths are going to make sure they don’t go hungry for a minute longer with this fun campaign.”

The campaign will run across Channel 7 in 30-second TVCs, out of home, radio, digital, point of sale, at AFL games and at the Woolworths Playgrounds in Melbourne.
