Yahoo! returns to the Nielsen DCR top 10 as big hitters lose audience

Yahoo! is back in the top 10 in September’s Nielsen digital content ratings (DCR), bucking the trend which saw most of the major current events and global news digital publications lose unique audience (UA).

Apart from news.com.au, which grew its UA by 0.4% and remains in second spot behind ABC News, Yahoo! was the only other top 10 publisher to see an increase (7.3%). Its rise sees The Australian drop out of the top 10.

The most significant drop came for eighth-placed The Age which lost 20.8% of its UA, while The Guardian dipped by 16% but placed seventh.

ABC News remains the top publisher after first landing in the position in January, and holding the top spot for the entirety of 2020. It had a UA of 12,028,404 in September, despite having a downward turn of 7.4%.

7 News also had a good month, climbing one place into fourth, thanks to experiencing less of a fall in UA than nine.com.au, which dipped into fifth.

Australians have also already spent 9% more time reading news content online in 2020 than they did in the entire of 2019, despite there still being three months to go in 2020.
