‘You’re such a big boy’: Telstra uses French tennis ace Henri Leconte to push wifi network
Retired French tennis ace Henri Leconte gets mixed up in a series of misunderstandings at the beach in a new push for Telstra’s national wifi Air network.
In one ad Leconte, who made a name for himself with his off-the-wall commentary for Channel Seven for the Australian Open, appears to tell a woman walking by “lovely dress” before saying to another man “look at you, you’re such a big boy”. He then hastily points out he is on a video call to his family.
The ads end by telling potential new customers they will get free and unlimited wifi in the Telstra Air until June 30 when they take out a new mobile plan with the telco.
Independent Sydney agency The Monkeys is behind the work.
In another we Leconte exerting himself playing tennis on the beach while two girls can be heard complementing the shots in the background saying ‘he’s so hot’.
But when the camera pans out we see the girls are watching tennis on their phone, leaving Leconte, who is playing swingball with his son, looking disappointed.
A third spot also looks at tennis and features Leconte with a Channel Seven microphone excitedly taking over the commentary leaning over a couple who are watching a match on a tablet in a cafe.

I’m genuinely surprised that The Monkeys would produce work like this. It feels flat and the creative reaches for cheap gags

Everyone, including the talent, seem a bit embarrassed by these.

Filled with French exaggeration, with little plot development and authentic humour.

It’s got nothing to do with more data.

See other post about creative pitch for Telstra. This sort of work is probably why. Just below average work for what is a very good product.

You’re such a big boy – tasteless double entendre smacks of paedophile grooming – quite distressing to victims of assault. I have lodged a complaint to the Advertising Standards Bureau

I love these ads..A bit of light fun showing what you can do with access to wifi.. isn’t that the message?

What a humourless bunch you are. I’ve found the commercials entertaining and delightfully the wrong side of PC. Complaint to the ASB? Get a life, mate.

There was a french comedy actor named Louis de Funes very funny man that Henri Leconte try to emulate.
