Emerging producers the focus of new Metro Screen and Screen NSW program

A new program to find the next generation of producers has been created by Metro Screen and Screen NSW.

The release:

Metro Screen has proudly partnered with Screen NSW to launch the new and refreshed Emerging Producer Placement (EPP) program for 2015. EPP 2015 has been designed to identify and support a new generation of emerging producers in NSW and advance their careers in screen.

Maureen Barron, Chief Executive at Screen NSW, stated;
“Screen NSW was delighted to fund the research by Metro Screen into the most effective way to support emerging producers.  This unique program, developed from this research, provides emerging producers with an understanding of the realities of both in-office production activity and project funding processes, and will prepare our future producers with hands-on experience of the key skills required for producing series and long-form content.”

Announcing:  The two successful EPP candidates, Rosie Lourde and Peter Ireland, were chosen from a particularly strong field of 26 aspirants from which a short list of six were attentively interviewed by the EPP selection committee before the eventual decision was arrived at.

Rosie Lourde saidI’m so appreciative to Screen NSW and Metro Screen for this opportunity. The redesigned EPP is an incredible pathway for emerging producers. I’m excited to work alongside the agency and one of Australia’s most exciting production companies as well as Metro Screen, to continue building the skills I need for a fruitful producing career.”

Peter Ireland said“The EPP is a huge professional boost for me. It means learning from the best in our industry, both on the funding body side and the production side, in a context that I can apply directly to my own work. This experience to me is, literally, a chance to advance my knowledge and my projects, in 6 months, by gaining experience that would take years to develop.“
Rosie and Peter will now be individually mentored, with a focus on developing their skills and networks in their chosen field of interest and will also receive guidance on their career development with a film industry careers consultant.

Both applicants have already commenced their 6-month industry placement (3 days/ week) with essential mentoring, skills development and networking program. They will spend the majority of their time with production companies, with additional time at Screen NSW and attending key industry events. They will also work with a consultant to plan their career pathway.

This is an incredible opportunity for Rosie and Peter to receive high level experience with Australia’s top production companies across film, television, online and transmedia, as well as gaining a unique experience in assessing ideas, writing budget and script reports, and sitting in on development workshops within a live production and development funding environment with Screen NSW.

Screen NSW and Metro Screen congratulate these two up and coming emerging producers.

Kath Shelper, Metro Screen’s President;
“The Emerging Producer Placement program is such an intelligent idea, based on substantial research conducted by Metro Screen. Our industry has a dire need for more skilled, creative producers and through this and the Emerging Filmmakers Fund Metro Screen and Screen NSW are working together to look after the emerging sector in NSW.”
