Production begins on Patrick remake
The final cast of the remake of Patrick has been announced. Directed by Mark Hartley the cast includes Bait 3D’s Sharni Vinson and Game of Thrones’ Charles Dance, joining already announced Rachel Griffiths and Damon Gameau. Production began this week. The film is produced by Antony I Ginnane.
The announcement:
A re-working of the 1978 Australian cult horror film Patrick, starring Rachel Griffiths, Sharni Vinson and Charles Dance, has commenced production at Melbourne’s Docklands Studios.
Patrick is a sophisticated thriller that begins with the mysterious disappearance of a nurse at a remote private clinic. Kathy (rising star Sharni Vinson – Step Up 3D, Bait 3D, You’re Next) takes up the vacant position and is thrust into the formidable company of Matron Cassidy (Academy Award nominee Rachel Griffiths – Hilary and Jackie, Six Feet Under, Muriel’s Wedding) and Dr. Sebastian Roget (Charles Dance – Game Of Thrones, Gosford Park, Alien 3), a renegade neurologist operating at the fringes of medical society. Kathy is soon put to work caring for a mysterious coma patient simply known as Patrick. Unbeknownst to the young nurse, Patrick has a crush on her, and burgeoning psychic powers and before long his affection will turn into a deadly and bloody obsession. Damon Gameau (Balibo, Underbelly), Peta Sergeant (Iron Sky) and Martin Crewes (Crownies, Resident Evil) have also been cast in supporting roles.
Producer and film industry veteran Antony I. Ginnane has returned to oversee production and multiple ARIA award and AFI award winning filmmaker, Mark Hartley (Not Quite Hollywood) will bring Patrick to a new generation of horror film fans as Director. Screenwriter Justin King has reworked the original Patrick to deliver the screenplay into today’s era of high-tech surveillance and social media. Patrick is a shock-laden chiller that climaxes with a breathless and bloody fight for survival.
Filming will take place in several locations around Melbourne and will continue through to the end of the year. Patrick will have its world premiere at MIFF in 2013 and will be released in Australian and New Zealand cinemas on October 17th 2013 by Umbrella Entertainment. Bankside Films acts as exclusive worldwide sales company (ex ANZ) as well as co-financier.
Patrick is distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Umbrella Entertainment. The film is produced by Antony I. Ginnane, written by Justin King and directed by Mark Hartley. Executive Producers are Bill Fayman, Jeff Harrison, Phil Hunt, Ann Lyons and Compton Ross. International sales will be managed by Bankside Films UK. Financing is from Screen Australia, Film Victoria, Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund, Screen Queensland, Umbrella Entertainment, Bankside Films UK, Head Gear Films, EFIC and private investors including Post Lounge and Deluxe.
