Ten to screen just six V8 races live from 2015
Network Ten will show six of the V8 Supercars races live when it takes on the broadcast from Seven in 2015, opting for a highlights package on Sunday afternoon on the main channel at 4pm.
It was announced before Christmas Ten and Fox Sports had signed a record $241m deal with V8s for the rights, with Fox Sports to broadcast every test, practice and race live.
V8s had previously told Mumbrella there would be no drop in coverage on free-to-air TV, saying: “We can assure our fans that there will be more free to air and more pay television, so more content in total.”
Current rights holders Seven Network showing every race live on either the main channel or digital offshoots. There are 15 races in the calendar for the tour this season.
The six races Ten will broadcast live are the Bathurst 1000, the Adelaide 500, the Gold Coast 600, the Sydney 500, the Townsville 500 and the Sandown 500.
Motorsport magazine show RPM will also return to Ten, with hour-long highlight shows to air on One at 8:30pm on Staurday and Sunday, and 11:30pm on the main channel.
Ten CEO Hamish McLennan, said: “Ten will bring viewers and advertisers the six best races – live and free – plus compelling highlights packages of all the other races. We have worked closely with V8 Supercars to ensure free-to-air television viewers receive comprehensive and engaging coverage on both Ten and One.
“It will be a compelling offer and we cannot wait to get it on air.”
How to kill the profile of a sport, give it to Ten.
Havent they done a great job lifting the profile of NBL in Australia?
Anything Ten is involved in crashes and burns. 6 races live on FTA is a joke. Warbo should be sacked for doing this deal, it is an insult to the teams and drivers who will no longer be able to seen by the fans who love this sport. They should have stayed with Seven.

Looking at the dismal offerings that Channel ten are offering as entertainment presently I have to wonder if they will still be broadcasting in 2015.
I am sure that an hour-long highlight shows to air on One at 8:30pm on Saturday and Sunday, and 11:30pm on the main channel will really rip up the ratings when anyone who’s interested will see the results on the nightly news.
They might as well put the round up on at 2.00 am for insomniacs as an alternative to the shopping channels.

Devil’s Advocate: Ten did a really good job with the Big Bash so it can do sport well when it wants to. Its coverage of the Olympics was diabolical and this move is simply bizarre, given the loyalty of motorsport fans. No doubt Foxtel’s coverage will be superb; they are the only ones that truly understand sports broadcasting.

Inside mail is Speed (foxtel) will get motoGP as well. I can’t wait the coverage on WSBK is miles ahead of MotoGP.

Just another ratings loser decision by TEN executives.
These decisions will only end when TEN is sold or the entire executive levels are replaced.
Sorry do not agree Elbogrease. Should read Fuck you viewers

Typical channel 10 – make the promise but don’t deliver. V8SC be careful, channel 10 will reduce your following.

Wow, McLennan’s attempts to sugar coat the news of only six live races treats motor sport fans with contempt.

Forget the fans for a minute… This is very bad news for the teams who rely on sponsorship dollars which in turn does in part rely on Repucom data which is formed from tv viewership. Less measurable eyeballs = less sponsor dollars. Very damaging for the smaller teams who don’t have manufacturer backing… bad for the sport.

I hear what many of you are saying but not all of you understand the facts. The reality here is that the V8 Supercars CEO has sold off the broadcast rights for 2015 primarily to the highest bidder which is Foxtel. Channel 10 really have a secondary role in this to show some free to air content so that the CEO James Warburton can pretend that he is still looking after every fan. Dress it up however you like James but make no mistake, I am furious about seeing less on F.T.A which will be the reality if you can’t afford Foxtel. What many don’t know is that there is currently a separate production team called V8 Supercars Television (V8TV) which is the production arm of V8 supercars and produces all the content for Channel 7 to broadcast. Yes there is some cross pollination with 7 personalities but it is essentially controlled by V8 Supercars. I do expect that come 2015 you will still see many of the same personalities such as Neil Crompton and Mark Skaife and I am certain that the production quality will be equally as good as we have now. The differences will be in the presenters and who is flying the flag for Foxtel and/or Ten given that they are the broadcasters. Let’s be clear about this. Foxtel are controlling the shots because they tipped in the most money and they want us to become new subscribers. And you will not be able to see everything live or as near as, nor will you see every race (bar 6) to total unless you pay. Once again absurd greed will impact heavily on those that can least afford it.
Not happy James

No way in the world am I going to pay through the nose to watch the v8;s on Fox. Probably give up watching v8 supercars all together. One hour highlights on Ten would include 40 minutes of ads.

I think currently TV sucks, we upgrade our TVs for more Free to Air TV, but get sucked in by the adverts and repeats . Surely there has to be a better ratio where the TV stations make money and we the viewers don’t continuously change stations to avoid the ads. SBS seems to have a reasonable model for non greedy TV Execs

This is the final nail in the v8supercar coffin. It will suffer by not having Australian made cars and we know what happened when they tried to change the code to 4 pot European cars. I will now be contemplating gardening and visiting the park on Sundays.
