A new TV companion app has launched allow viewers interaction and in-depth information as they watch programs. The platform also allows users closer reach to TV show sponsor through integration. The app was designed by former EMI executive Ernesto Schmitt and BBC iPlauer CTO Anthony Rose.
The announcement:
Australian audiences can now experience TV as never before with the local launch of zeebox, a free TV companion app that has already been adopted by millions of viewers in the US and UK as their official TV ‘side kick’.
Launching in Australia as part of a global expansion, the award-winning social TV platform is the brainchild of former EMI executive Ernesto Schmitt and BBC iPlayer CTO Anthony Rose.
zeebox displays in-depth information about the programs viewers are watching, enabling them to engage with friends and their favourite television personalities directly through zeebox, and even makes it easy to buy the products seen on TV.
“Imagine watching a programme and on your mobile or tablet…” – how bout removing the word “and” the providing a half-decent social tv experience.
Really not much different to Fango and Jump In.
The number of comments is an indication of the interest in these things. Seems to me it’s about getting people to watch live TV by augmenting the experience. It’s not going to work. Lots of us moved beyond live TV ages ago.
While on that topic – I used the Channel 10 catch up TV thing for the first time. First I’m amazed any advertiser spends money annoying you in the numerous breaks. The ads seem to skip probably because some media person does not understand bitrate. The ads go on forever. So I bought another US iTunes card of eBay and will get the rest of the content on Apple TV. No wonder Channel Ten are in deep shit.
@Tired For someone who has moved ‘beyond live TV’ you seem to be spending a lot of money and a lot of time watching on-demand TV.
